Bright, bold and brilliant; Why every workshop should have Biothane on its shelf.

Biothane is becoming a phenomenon across multiple industries but what actually is it? Manufactured in the USA, Biothane is a trademark name used to describe a polyester webbing coated in either TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) or PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). The plastic coating brings with it many favourable attributes such as durability, water resistance, flame resistance and easy maintenance. With so many variations in thicknesses and finishes it’s no wonder Biothane USA has managed to penetrate its way through different industries. The question is, what can we make with Biothane and what’s best practice? As Abbey are one of the leading European distributors of Biothane, we feel it’s only right we shout about how diverse this product is and through the power of persuasion, hopefully convince you why your workshop should have a roll on its shelf. Dog collars and leads Biothane dog collars are becoming increasingly popular and it comes as no surprise when you take it to account all the attributes previously mentioned.  If your customers are looking for something fun and practical then it’s worth considering the GOLD HIFLEX, GOLD STANDARD or BETA STANDARD range. The webbing is strong, durable, and easy to clean and unlike leather or webbing made collars, you’re guaranteed not to have that lingering dog smell. Another point to touch on are their thicknesses. Between the 3 types, the thickness varies from 2 – 2.5mm allowing you to easily punch holes and cut the ends into your desired shape. Take our customer Trollsmoor. These guys are true advocates of Biothane and make their entire range of pet products from it. Image by Trollsmoor   Saddlery and tack For those looking for an alternative to leather tack, Biothane experts recommend their BETA SUPER HEAVY. Since the late 1990’s it has built up its reputation and earned the trust of bridle and headcollar makers alike. It is soft, supple and easy to wash. Aesthetically, it is very similar to leather so it definitely gets a thumbs up there and we have not even touched on it’s break strength. Break strength is 453kg (value based on per inch of width). Safety harnesses and belts From horses to Humans, Biothane is also used to make safety harnesses, healthcare equipment and industrial straps and tool belts. High frequency welded DIAMIOND ULTRA THIN, with anti-microbial treatment is proving a success for the accident and emergency services. The GOLD series proves a popular choice for safety harnesses because of its resistance to electric shocks. For belts, try Biothane’s GRANITE range; a matt finish designed suitably for heavy duty work. Sporting goods If you manufacturer anything for the sporting world, especially cycling, marine and outdoor equipment which require strong, easy to clean and abrasion resistant webbing, then choose from the GOLD, GRANITE and BETA coatings, available in widths from 10mm ½”  to 100mm 4”. Whatever usual or unusual request falls in the hands of your workshop, Biothane may just be the answer! From canine and tack equipment to high chair straps and watch straps, Biothane USA has something for (almost!) every application.
