Letters from Lucy: November

This month Lucy reminds us how many great FREE business programs there are through local councils.   Hi all, This month I’ve been doing lots of practice, practice, practice in the workshop! Its no-good learning something if you don’t work to perfect it a little bit every day. However, when it comes to doing things like paperwork, I am NOT good at doing a little bit every day. In fact, I like to leave it as long as I possibly can and then lock myself in a room until I’ve managed to finish at least 80% of it. Not a good way of doing things at all I agree. I’ve a bit of a feeling many makers are on the same team as me, the business side of things can be a total chore, especially when people don’t appreciate just HOW much admin needs to be done. Thankfully my local council run a lot of business owner programs which can help me brush up on some skills. From simple things such as picking a logo or a colour scheme to more in-depth advice such as developing your CRM (which I now know means Customer Relationship Management). Whilst many think that this is “way above their paygrade”, there’s a lot of stuff to think about when you put your business hat on. What would your best business advice be I wonder? Mine would be “don’t leave the paperwork till the last minute!!”. It’s a short one this month due to the Xmas rush happening! That at least I’m somewhat prepared for (I Hope!) Till next time, L
