FIEBING'S SUEDE DYE: TIPS AND TRICKS

TOP TIPS FOR DYING SUEDE MATERIAL

• Prepare the suede or rough-out leather by brushing with a suede brush to remove dirt and roughen any shiny spots. Brushing will also get the tiny fibres to stand on end which will make the dye soak deeper into the fabric. Make sure to brush in all different directions. 
• Make sure you have enough dye to cover the entire area. Suede is extremely porous so you may need to use more dye than you would for other leathers to cover the same area but be careful not to oversaturate the suede when applying. Concentrating too much dye in one area could result in permanent dark spotting, which can be extremely difficult to even out.
• Test the colour on a scrap piece of suede or on an unseen part to make sure you are happy with the colour. Keep in mind it won’t be possible to go from a darker colour to a lighter shade.
• You may wish to add a second or even third coat to achieve a darker colour. However, avoid layering on too many coats, as too much dye can dry the leather out.
• Don’t handle the suede whilst it’s drying as wet dye can rub off easily.
