Old formula was very nice. Newer formula with citrinella not so much.
I love the original "Dubbin" formula from J & E Sedgwick when Richard Farrow was their managing director. I still have a supply of Dubbin from J & E Sedgwick from approximately 1990 - 2010 for dressing Sedgwick hides I have from many years ago (imported from 1970's to 2014) and they are still like new, the best English curried leather. When it comes to leather care, nothing is as nice as Sedgwick's old Dubbin formula made with mutton tallow, cod liver oil, and beeswax. I tried bringing in more in 2020 - 2022 and was disappointed. The metal tins were expensive and not necessary, the beeswax was whiter in color, and they added Citronella to kill the "fishy" smell, and in IMO, made it smell like a "campsite candle". The higher pricing they started charging in approximately 2018 - 2022 and new restrictive Customs regulations in the USA in 2020 - 2022 made it a hassle to import to the USA for retail selling. Sedgwick was "the best" in their industry for many years and I believe they still make some very nice leather. I just miss "the olden days". I very much appreciate Abbey for keeping Sedgwick going. We need the finest quality "full grain" bridle leather they used to make. I really miss it.
