🔧 What It’s Used For
  • Woodworking, joinery & veneering — perfect for furniture making, cabinet work, doors, interior wood joints.
  • Antique or furniture restoration — joints can be taken apart again with steam or heat if repair is needed, making it ideal for conservation/restoration work.
  • DIY, woodcraft, musical instruments, cabinetry, marquetry, furniture repair — any project where a traditional, natural adhesive and rigid bond are preferred.
  • As a base for edge‑stain with powder dye — some craftsmen use Pearl Glue mixed with dye and water for leather edge‑staining (if you also supply dyes).
🧪 How to Use It (Preparation & Bonding Instructions)
  • Soak the glue pearls in cold water overnight (or at least several hours), using about 3–4 times the volume of water relative to glue.
  • After soaking, gently warm the mixture in a double‑boiler or glue‑pot until fully dissolved — target temperature around 60 °C. Do not boil.
  • If the glue appears too thick, you can add more warm water to reach the desired consistency.
  • Apply the warm glue to one or both mating surfaces using a brush or suitable applicator, then press and clamp the pieces together until the glue cools and sets.
  • The bond sets as the glue cools — temperature, humidity, and clamping pressure can affect the final strength. Because the glue remains water‑soluble, joints can be later reopened with steam or heat if repair or adjustment is needed.
✅ Features & Benefits
  • Natural, traditional hide glue — derived from animal protein, with low colour and odour, ideal for craftspeople who favour traditional materials.
  • Reversible joints — because the glue remains water‑soluble, glued parts can be disassembled if required (useful in restoration, conservation, or adjustable furniture).
  • Strong, rigid bond — excellent for wood‑to‑wood joints, veneers, and furniture, with good initial “grab” and setting strength.
  • Versatile applications — from traditional woodworking and furniture making, to antique repair, cabinetry, and instrument building.
  • Sold by weight — allows flexibility: buy exactly how much you need, ideal for workshops, restorers or occasional users.
⚠️ Limitations & Considerations
  • Because it is water‑soluble, glued joints can weaken if exposed to damp or moisture. Not ideal for outdoor furniture or items exposed to water or high humidity.
  • Requires preparation (soaking and heating) before use — less convenient than ready‑mixed glues.
  • Setting time can be longer than modern glues; you’ll need clamps and time to allow glue to cool and set properly.
  • Not suited to flexible materials or where a permanently flexible bond is needed — best for rigid wood joinery or parts needing firm, solid bond.
Please note: We are not glue experts. Every workshop, project, and material behaves differently, and the true experts are the leatherworkers and craftspeople who use these adhesives daily. Our descriptions are intended only as helpful guidance — always follow your own experience, testing, and professional judgement for best results.

Description

Quality pearl glue sold by the Kilo.

Pearl glue is a traditional wood glue which can be used for veneering, carpentry, joinery, antique restoration, making musical instruments and many other uses. The water soluble nature of this glue allows joints to be disassembled for repairs, unlike modern glues. This does mean the glue is not especially resistant to damp.

Also used to make edge stain by mixing it with powder dye and water.
