What makes Aulton & Butler saddle trees special?

Aulton & Butler saddle trees are made in the same way since 1955. Although some manufacturing methods have moved on with technology, each tree is made with traditional craft skills and metal work skills that have been passed down to each generation of tree maker. The Aulton & Butler saddle trees are made using 5 ply Scandinavian wood and cross ply laminated and the metal work is sourced from the West Midlands, the heart of manufacturing. This includes the steel frame, which are formed in house, and the stirrup bars which are either sourced via Abbey England’s foundry or from a forge house in Birmingham, England.

What is your best seller?

Our stand out Aulton & Butler saddle tree is the AB 286 Dressage tree. This is a timeless classic and is still widely used in some of the world’s top dressage saddles today.

The AB11F2 Hawk Event Tree has also proved to be a popular tree over its 40 year service and is an extremely versatile and stylish tree.

What are the differences between spring trees and rigid trees?

The spring trees offer a greater amount of flex and movement between horse and rider. The spring tree will act as a damper, absorbing shock and motion, which makes for a much better balance between you and your horse.

Why use a close contact tree?

A close contact tree is designed to offer the greatest amount of tactile feel between you and your horse and addresses the need to have a lower centre of gravity when making tricky changes and high fence jumps. The low slung design of the Ab9 Close Contact Tree is also a great balance between traditional general purpose style trees and jump trees so this can be a multipurpose tree for every day hacking.
