HOW TO USE POWDER DYE
We appreciate some of our customers prefer to make their own Edge Stain but perhaps are unsure as to the exact method, so Abbey are here to offer some guidance.Â
Please note this method will produce approximately 0.5 gallon of edge stain.
- To start, boil 1 pint of water in an old saucepan.Â
- Add ½ a coffee cup of pearl glue and simmer and stir until completely dissolved.Â
- Boil 3 pints of water in a kettle and pour into an old bucket, add pearl glue from saucepan and stir well.Â
- Add Powder Dye, depending on type, start with ½ coffee cup and add more to the desired strength. Keep testing by dipping a scrap of leather in and seeing the level of absorption.Â
- Allow to cool and store in a secure container.Â
- If when using after some weeks the stain becomes thick, either heat to use or add hot water to dilute.Â
- If the stain is weak add more powder dye.Â
- If the stain does not shine, add more pearl glue.Â
This is not an exact science but with a little experimentation should give good results!
